What you'll do
Come into school for an hour a week and listen to children read to you one-to-one. Volunteers usually read with four children per session. You'll read with the same children over time, so you can get to know them and see their progress.
Why volunteer?
Meet and get to know interesting children, hear great books, and see the school from the inside. It's a fun, easy way to support children and the school, and it really does make a difference to children's reading confidence.
What happens next
- Fill this in (2 minutes).
- The school office will arrange your DBS check. (A DBS check is the standard police-records check for anyone working with children. It's free for volunteers; the office will tell you what ID to bring. If you already have a certificate on the DBS update service, bring it in.)
- The reading coordinator will match you with a class at one of your chosen times and email you your sessions, usually within a couple of weeks of term starting.
